Abstract

986,849. Shaft furnaces. K. BECKENBACH. March 22, 1962 [June 21, 1961], No. 35432/64 Divided out of 986,848. Heading F4B. Air heated by flowing upwardly through the cooling zone of a shaft furnace 10 for calcining limestone &c. mixed with waste gases from lower burners 15a enters a central flue 53, the mixture being returned near burners 15b to hollow spaces formed in the charge material below radial ribs 52 through ports 55. The central flue 53 extends upwardly as a hollow insert 50 suspended from upper transverse girders. Gaseous or liquid fuel are fed through pipes 46a and 46b to the burners 15a and 15b respectively. Modifications, Figs. 2-4 (not shown), are also disclosed in Specification 986,848.
