A spin-drier having an inner cover 14 closing the basket 3 and movable by a lever 41 is characterized in that the cover, the lever and the drive shaft or spindle 1 of the drier are provided with mutually co-operating locking members which are shaped and arranged so that either the cover and the lever, or the cover and the spindle can be interconnected in which latter case the lever is released from the cover. The locking members comprise a centrally disposed cup-shaped locking chamber 20, 21 mounted on the inside of the cover housing two spaced parallel discs 26, 27 pivoting about a common pivot pin 25 and having keyhole slots serving alternately to embrace respective lock plungers, one of which, 42, is pivotally mounted on the lever 41, and the other 38, 39 is mounted on an upper extension 38 of the spindle 1. A lock bolt 34 is axially displaceable on the pivot 25 and a pin 31 fixed to the discs 26, 27 in parallel with the shaft, and is actuated by springs 35 tending to displace the bolt towards a position in which a detent pin 36 thereon fits into a hole 37 in a stationary disc 23 covering the upper end of the chamber so that the discs are inter-locked when the inner cover is connected to the spindle. The upper end of the pin 31 protrudes through an arc-like slot in the disc 23 to form a handle 32 to manually operate the discs 26, 27. The plunger 42 in its released position and after pivoting about a bolt 43 in the lever 41 actuates an electric switching device 48 which is connected into a circuit of the drier comprising the drive motor and a relay disposed in the conduits supplying compressed air to cylinders 12 which close the outer cover 9 of the drier.
