In a method of advancing either or both of two roof supports 1, 2 towards a conveyer 3, a fluid-pressure jack 8 pivoted to the conveyer carries a pulley 9 engaging a rope or chain 6 passing around guide pulleys 7 and fastened to the movable supports 1, 2. Each support comprises a floor bar 4 carrying three hydraulic props 5 supporting a roof bar (not shown).
