Abstract

986,177. Fluid-pressure control valve. K. & H. EQUIPMENT Ltd. May 2, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 17297/63. Heading F2V. [Also in Divisions G1, G3, H3 and H4] Air from an inlet 88 is prevented from flowing to an outlet 90 by a light valve member 91, made for example of a plastic, which is retained in its lower position by pressure from an auxiliary air inlet 103 which communicates with the upper face of member 91 by way of a passage 105 through a plunger 96 of an electromagnet solenoid 95, a chamber 106 and a passage 107. Energization of the solenoid raises the plunger 96, cuts off the auxiliary air inlet by a valve 97 and opens a valve 98 to allow chamber 106 to communicate with an air exhaust outlet 104 and thereby remove pressure from the upper face of member 91. Air from inlet 88 then tends to flow below member 91 which by virtue of its light weight is moved rapidly to its upper position. The auxiliary air inlet may be at the same or a slightly elevated pressure with respect to inlet 88. The area of member 91 over which the auxiliary air supply operates is made greater than that over which the air from inlet 88 operates and is increased artificially by forming shallow slots 108 across the upper face.
