Abstract

985,126. Tube mills. POLYSIUS G.m.b.H. July 8, 1963 [Dec. 12, 1962], No. 27016/63. Heading B2A. [Also in Division F4] In apparatus for grinding and drying material in a tube mill, the moist material is fed at 1, Fig. 1, into a drying compartment of the mill having tumbler blades 3 and drying gas fed thereto at 4, the dried material being exhausted through apertures 5 in the tube mill wall into a duct 6 and casing 7, respectively. The material passes through a duct 8 to a classifier (not shown) from which the coarse material is passed at 11 into the fine grinding compartment 9 of the mill from which it passes out through a perforated plate 10 and apertures 5 to be combined with the material from the drying compartment 2. Fresh or warm air is introduced into the compartment 9 through a connection 12. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the milled material from the compartment is not combined with the dried material but passes to a separate duct for passage to a classifier which also serves the stream of dried material, which stream, however, previously passes through a hammer or impact mill from which the coarse material passes to the fine grinding compartment while only the fines pass to the common classifier. In a further form, a coarse grinding compartment 15, Fig. 3, is provided between the drying compartment 2 and the fine grinding compartment 9, and a compartment having a cylinder screen 13 between the drying and coarse drying compartments which serves to deliver screened fines through the apertures 5 into a collecting casing 7 common to all three compartments ; the material from the grinding compartments passing through perforated plates 10, 16 to a common series of apertures 17.
