Abstract

973,246. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 27, 1961 [April 13, 1960], No. 13117/60. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre comprises a carcase of one or more rubberized parallel steel cord plies 6 and main and auxiliary bead wires 3, 4 in each bead, each ply end being wrapped first around the associated main bead wire 3 in one direction and then around the auxiliary bead wire 4 in the other direction to terminate in the region of the bead heel 5. As shown, the two bead wires 3, 4 in each bead are of the same mean diameter but the main wire 3 is of larger section than the auxiliary wire 4. Additional bead reinforcing strips 7 may be provided, such strips comprising either curved lengths 8 of steel cord disposed with their ends in the bead heel region, or one or more lengths of steel cord extending around the bead in a series of convolutions. Alternatively the strip 7 may comprise a folded strip of parallel steel cords disposed with the cord ends radially inwardly of the fold.
