973,097. Railway vehicle undercarriages; mounting motors. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVEUND MASCHINENFABRIK. Sept. 22, 1961 [Sept. 27, 1960], No. 34085/61. Headings B7H and B7L. A railway vehicle bogie has electric motors 16, Figs. 1 and 2, mounted on the bogie frame 3 so that their driving shafts extend transversely thereof, the motor housings being rigidly interconnected at 22 to form one block (alternatively they could be integral) and secured by members 23 only to the end members 18 of the frame and thus constitute a longitudinal frame member. The frame 3 has no usual central transverse member rigidly secured to its sides. The axles 1, 2 have axle boxes 5 supporting the frame 3 through springs 4, the frame having guide pins 6 engaging bushes in the axle boxes. A vehicle body 7 is supported on the ends of a cross-member 8 supported from the frame 2 through rubber spring stacks 15 on yokes 14 pivoted to rocker bars 13. The motor housings have at each side, pairs of pads 24 and 24a of which the adjacent pairs 24 are interconnected by a link 26. The outer pairs 24a carry bearings 25 for the axles 1, 2 which are driven through gears 17. Tractive and braking forces are transmitted by rod pairs 31, 32 jointed at 33 and pivotably connected at 27 to the link 26 and also to the body 7, in the manner described in Specification 969,919.
