Abstract

972,296. Vehicle headlamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 19, 1961 [Jan. 22, 1960], No. 2211/61. Heading F4R. [Also in Division H1] A vehicle headlamp comprises a reflector consisting of parabolic upper and lower halves 1, 2, the focus F 1 of the upper half being nearer to the poles of the reflector than the focus F 2 of the lower half, a filament 3 extending between the foci along the axis joining them, a second filament 5 arranged horizontally and at right angles to the first filament and an elliptical mirror 8 located in the upper half of the headlamp facing the filaments at the end of the first filament opposite to the second filament with its foci substantially coincident with the foci F 1 , F 2 of the upper and lower halves of the parabolic reflector respectively. The cover glass 11 of the lamp may be provided with light spreading beams e.g. vertical prisms. The mirror 8 may be attached to or form part of the cover glass 11.
