Abstract

971,866. Electric battery lamps. H. HYMAN. Aug. 23, 1963, No. 33551/63. Heading F4R. A device for inspecting inaccessible parts of e.g. machinery comprises a casing housing one or more batteries and closed at the front by a cap having an opening in which is secured a rigid tube of conducting material which is connected to one pole of the battery and has a bendable tube of the " stay-put " type extending from the opposite end and carrying a lamp bulb surrounded by a protective sleeve, a flexible lead from the second pole of the battery passing through the tubes to the base contact of the bulb, a switch in the circuit between the bulb and the battery being mounted on the casing. The casing 10 is of cylindrical form and of synthetic plastics material and is closed at the rear end by a cap 11 having an internal stop 25 against which a metal plate 26 rests leaving a space 27 which may be used to house a spare bulb. A plate 32 connects the plate 26 to one side of a switch S mounted on the casing, the rear of the battery 19 being connected to the plate 26 by a spring 29. The front of the casing is closed by a cap 12 having an axial opening in which the rear end of a rigid tube 13 is fitted. The tube is in contact with a member 38 connected by a strip 33 to the other side of the switch S. A bendable tube 14 of'the "stay-put " type is secured in the front end of the tube 13 and carries a sleeve 16 at the front end to which is secured a shield 17. The sleeve is threaded to receive the lamp bulb, in front of which may be provided a bullseye lens. The second pole 21 of the battery 19 is pressed by the spring 29 into contact with a button 46 on a disc 45 connected to a lead 44 passing through the tubes 13, 14 and terminating in a button in contact with the base contact of the bulb.
