Abstract
A covering material for laundry presses and ironers comprises a metal wool mat with a thin non-woven, non-metallic fibrous layer on one or both sides. A further woven layer of cotton or flannel may be applied. The non-metallic layer may consist of a mixture of polyester fibres and cotton, woollen, or cellulose fibres and may be impregnated with water repellant substances. The layers may be felted together by passing the webs through plain or grooved rollers and may be needled to interlace the fibres. The covering may be laminated before being applied to a laundry roll, or may be formed by winding the skeins direct on to the roll, in which case a prior layer of wire mesh, entangled metal wool or a series of narrow laps is applied first. Several layers may be applied and an outer covering of cotton or flannel cloth may be provided. The needling of the layers may be accomplished by passing the webs beneath a row of needles extending across the width thereof and registering with an apertured plate beneath the webs (Fig. 4, not shown).
