Abstract
Human hair and animal fibres are simultaneously dyed and cleansed with an aqueous composition comprising a solution or dispersion of an oxidation base dye, a detergent and a thickening agent so that the composition is in the form of a paste or gel. The preferred thickening agent is powdered magnesium montmorillonite while the preferred detergent is monoethanolamine lauryl sulphate which may also contain conditioners such as one or more higher fatty acids. The oxidation base dyes exemplified are Fourrine 36, 57 and 91. The composition is applied to hair like a normal shampoo; it may be prepared by mixing the oxidation base dye with the detergent, preferably at 40-60 DEG C., thereafter incorporating the thickening agent as a 3% W/V aqueous gel which has been dispersed in a colloid mill, thereafter stirring, optionally in an atmosphere of nitrogen, until homogeneously mixed.
