978,929. Chain and cable grips. W. G. ALLEN & SONS (TIPTON) Ltd. Dec. 18, 1962 [Dee. 27, 1961], No; 46205/61. Heading F2X. In a chain or cable one-way grip a wedging roller 17 acts between converging surfaces 14, 15 respectively on a housing 10 and a jaw 12 movable with respect to a jaw 11 formed in the housing. As shown the jaw 12 is channelshaped to accommodate alternate chain links. The roller is wedging-urged by a plunger 23 loaded by a spring 22. On tension release an abument 16 on the movable jaw may return the roller against the spring either by end pressure on the movable jaw or by actuation of a release screw 19. In the Provisional Specification the movable jaw is provided with one or more teeth permitting ratchetting with respect to the chain, and a rotatable cam-stop is provided opposite the spring plunger.
