Abstract
977,207. Casting composite articles. SANYO SPECIAL STEEL CO. Ltd. July 3, 1962 [July 6, 1961], No. 25503/62. Heading B3F. A composite article such as a billet or rod from which pipe or rod may be extruded is made by heating an insert in a vacuum or non - oxidizing atmosphere and plunging it into metal melted and held in a vacuum or non - oxidizing atmosphere, and cooling until the molten metal solidifies. The mould 3 and mild steel insert 4 are heated by electrical means 5. The mould is then lowered by means 6 to receive molten stainless steel poured through a runner 8, and the insert 4 is then lowered into the mould by means 9 and held therein until solidification. The enclosure 1 is filled with argon or other inert gas. Copper may be cast on to steel.
