Abstract
977,085. Shower baths. R. B. DENBY. Jan. 1, 1963 [Jan. 4, 1962; Feb. 20, 1962], Nos. 441/62 and 6613/62. Heading A4N. In a shower bath, in which the used water is recirculated to the shower head 32 by a pump 23, the water is re-heated by a flash heater 29 arranged between the shower supply pipe 30 and the pump 23 or in collecting sump 5. After filling tank 7 through hose 9 to a level determined by ball cock 8, the water is heated by a thermostatically controlled electric heater 36. A warning light shows when the water has reached the desired temperature and the heater 36 has been switched off. Handle 21 is then moved to operate three-way valve 12 by means of chain 19 so that a first portion of water flows from tank 7 through pipes 14 and 13 to the sump 5. Handle 21 also simultaneously operates a rotary switch which energizes the motor 26 of pump 23 and flash heater 29 as soon as there is sufficient water in the sump. In order to vary the temperature of the shower, the rate of flow of water through heater cylinder 28 is varied by means of valve 31. A safety cut-out thermostat is provided for heater 29 to prevent overheating. A further movement of handle 21 closes the pipe 13, de-energizes motor 26 and heater 29 and energizes motor 27 of drain pump 25 which drains the sump through pipe 33. In order to use the second portion of water in tank 7, handle 21 is moved to a third position in which pipe 15 is connected to pipe 13 and the pump 23 and heater 29 are energized as before. When the bather has finished, the water is drained from the sump by moving the handle 21 back to the second position. The shower cabinet is mounted on castor wheels 35 and fixed wheels, the former having brakes. The drain pump 25 may be omitted and according to one Provisional Specification, the sump is pumped out on the operation of a pedal. Reference is made to the use of gas for heating the water to the use of water cooling means and the inclusion of a filter in the water circulation.
