Abstract

976,377. Preheating pulverulent materials. RHEINSTAHL INDUSTRIE-PLANUNG G.m.b.H. Oct. 11, 1962 [Oct. 12, 1961], No. 38561/62. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B2] Pulverulent materials are heated with hot gas, the gas being divided into component streams each of which is fed to a dust separating device and the pulverulent material being fed successively through each individual dust separating device. As illustrated gases at a temperature of 500-1200‹ C. from a rotary furnace (not shown) are fed via a manifold 1 to cyclones 2, 3, 4 and 5. Pulverulent material in the size range 1 Á to 1000 Á, or preferably 5Á to 1000Á, is fed at 16 to the cyclone 5 and passes thence through cyclones 4, 3 and 2 to a down pipe 21 leading to the rotary furnace. Gases from the cyclones 2, 3, 4 and 5 flow through a collecting manifold 14 to a dust collector 15 from which gas flows through a blower 23 out of the system and separated dust passes through a duct 25 to the down pipe 21. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cyclones are arranged side by side. The pulverulent material to be treated may be raw cement meal, lime, or fine ores. Further gaseous constituents may be added to the entire hot gas stream or to individual component streams and constituents may be eliminated at any desired point. The above process may also be used for deacidifying, reducing, roasting or chlorinating pulverulent materials.
