[Also in Divisions D1 and D2] A belt for use in supporting a travelling filter, e.g. the wire of a paper-making machine, has longitudinally extending lines of drainage holes and comprises a flexible casing body encasing a strengthening member. This member comprises several laminated plies of rubberimpregnated fabric, the fabric of each ply being woven from straight metal wire in the crossdirection and yarn in the direction along the belt, to inhibit changes in the width of the belt, but maintain flexibility along the belt. The metal wires may be of brass, stainless steel, bronze or aluminium. The yarn may be of cotton, rayon, nylon, polyester or glass, and of substantially larger gauge than the wire. The casing may be of rubber, synthetic rubber, nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene or polyvinyl resins, may be endless, and may be provided with drainage channels extending across it each communicating with some of the drainage holes. These channels may be milled into the rubber after curing, or may be formed during the moulding. Specification 421,604 is referred to.
