974,616. Poultry batteries. JOHN SHEPHERD & SONS Ltd., and R. B. SHEPHERD. June 26, 1961 [March 24, 1960; July 5, 1960], Nos. 10431/60 and 23420/60. Heading A1M. In a poultry battery eggs roll from the cages on to a flexible conveyer 17 and pass to one end of the battery where they are deflected by means of plates 23 on to collecting trays 21 The conveyer 17 travels in an egg-receiving trough formed as an integral part of the cage floors or mounted against the side of that battery andy is driven over guide rollers 18, by means of an electric motor or manually by applying a crank-handle to a shaft 18a on one of the rollers 18. To prevent hens from damaging the eggs, the egg-receiving trough may be closed by a shield which is displaced by the weight of an egg rolling from the cage floor and is biased to return to the closed position. A nylon brush may be suspended over the conveyer near the tray 21 for cleaning the eggs. Specification 844,375 is referred to.
