[Also in Divisions B8 and E1] A submersible package includes an inflatable membrane 12 of a size to fill, when inflated, an outer container 14, and a commodity 10, which may be in a box, within the membrane. The package may include a gas bottle 34 for inflating the membrane, and control devices, operable by radio or sonar, or by a time mechanism, to release an anchor on the container and to initiate inflation of the membrane. Inflation of the membrane may also be controllable manually. The pressure of inflation may be under the control of devices sensitive to the pressure within the membrane and to the external hydrostatic pressure, and the control may be such as to provide the buoyancy necessary to maintain the package in equilibrium at a predetermined depth. A relief valve may release the air or gas inflating the membrane as the package approaches the surface. The vents 16 shown in the outer container 14 may be replaced by valves opened by the pressure of the membrane when this is inflated. The package may include handling hooks 17. It may also have a propulsion means 55, and may be in the form of a sled, or have tracks, wheels or skids, and may be in the form of a boat or of a boat landing craft. The membrane may be adapted to be thrown away after each use. The Specification suggests suitable materials for the outer container 14 and for the membrane 12.
