Abstract

974,516. Locating magnetic bodies. COSMOCORD Ltd. Aug. 15, 1962 [Aug. 15, 1961], No. 29397/61. Heading G1N. A head for detecting the presence of an object of magnetic material, comprises a magnetic structure which includes two magnetic loops 16, 10, and 17, 11, Fig.1 each including a source of magnetic flux and an air gap, and a third magnetic loop including both the said sources 10, 11, and a semi-conductor element 14 in a gap between polepieces 12, 13, the arrangement being such that a change of reluctance in one of the gaps in one of the said two loops causes a change in the flux passing through the element 14. The element may be magneto-resistive or be a Hall plate, and screening may be provided on all faces except that adjacent the two gaps. A bridge circuit for a magneto-resistive element is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown).
