Abstract
974,288. Shock absorbers. GESELLSCHAFT FUR LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN A.G. Feb. 20, 1963 [Feb. 22, 1962], No. 6763/63. Heading F2S. A shock-absorber, Fig. 1, comprises a sturdy tubular member 10 which is made, e.g., of a resilient plastics material and which is constrained between the upper face of an enlargement 3 of a pintle pin 4 and an internal shoulder 6a on a housing sleeve 6, the pintle 4, passing freely through metal liners 12, 12b at each end of the resilient member 10, being journalled in bushes 7, 8 secured to the sleeve 6 and a thrust bearing 11 being interposed between the pintle enlargement 3 and a lateral flange 12c of the lower metal liner 12b. In this embodiment the resilient member 10 is provided with internal ribs 10a so that, in operation, it bulges outwardly to frictionally engage the inner surface of the sleeve 6. The enlargement 3 of the pintle 4 is mounted upon a wheel stub axle 2, the upper end of the pin 4 being splined to receive a steering link 5 secured by a nut 13 and the sleeve 6 being integral with a front axle 9. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2, the resilient member 10 has outer ribs 15a and a narrow annular gap 16 is provided between the member 10 and a sleeve 14a which replaces the liners 12a, 12b, Fig. 1, so that, under load, the resilient member can be displaced slightly inwardly.
