Abstract

974,085. Gear pumps and motors. FRANK G. HOUGH CO. June 12, 1961, No. 21104/61. Heading F1F. A gear pump or motor comprises three pairs of meshing gears mounted on parallel shafts 20, 21, each central gear 15, 18 rotating in the opposite direction to its corresponding outer gears 14, 16, or 17, 19. The width of the central gears is equal to the sum of the widths of the outer gears, to balance the transverse forces on the shafts, and the bearings 22, 23, 36, 38 which support the shafts may therefore be less substantial than shown. The two shafts are connected by a gear train 45, 40, 44, and rotate in the same direction. The gears, and the walls 24, 26, 28, 30 separating them are urged together by the flange 32 on the cover plate 31, or by springs or fluid pressure.
