Abstract

962,404. Emptying tanks. MEGATOR PUMPS AND COMPRESSORS Ltd. May 28, 1963 [June 5, 1962], No. 21773/62. Heading B8T. A tubular floating suction arm 3 secured in a liquid supply tank 1 is connected via a flexible pipe 5 with an outlet pipe 4a whereby the pipe is permitted to bend freely in a vertical plane but is prevented from bending in a lateral direction by blade springs 6 located on opposed sides of the pipe 5 and attached to parts 4 and 7. The inlet end of the suction arm is T-shaped with inlet openings 9, and carries a fixed or pivotally secured float 12 and a baffle plate 10 with adjustable legs 11. In the lowermost position of the arm the legs maintain the inlet openings at a level to prevent or minimize impurities entering them. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 the T-shaped inlet end forms a fulcrum for box-like members 14 enclosing the inlet openings and provided with inlet slots 15; vertically adjustable feet 16 are provided. In the case of a deep tank the suction arm may comprise a tube with a T-shaped free end which is connected via lengths of flexible pipe with two extension arms, the free ends of which constitute liquid inlets and being supported by a float; additional extension arms may be connected to the assembly via flexible pipes. In all cases lateral bending of the flexible pipes is prevented.
