A combined windscreen washer and wiper apparatus comprises a body part 1, defining a liquid reservoir 2 and a motor housing 3 in which is mounted an oscillatable paddle 4 connected to the wiper, an inlet 8 for connection to a source of air under pressure, an air outlet 9 containing a tube 10 extending into the liquid reservoir 2 so that when air flows from inlet 8 to outlet 9, liquid is drawn up the tube 10 and directed on to the windscreen, valves 13, 26 for controlling the flow of air from the inlet to the outlet and from the inlet to the motor, respectively, and valve means operable by the paddle 4 for directing air alternatively to opposite sides thereof at the completion of each stroke. The wiper motor is operated by air from inlet 8, controlled by valve 26 which flows via one of the two inlet passages 23, in the valve plate 17, through one of the arcuate ports 15 to the right hand side of paddle 4 as shown in Fig. 1. Simultaneously air is exhausted from the other side of paddle 4, through the other arcuate port 15, the groove 24 in the valve plate 17, and the exhaust port 16 to the outlet 9. When the paddle 4 reaches the end of its travel, the over-centre spring 20 causes the valve plate 17, to move angularly until the shoulder 18 catches on the stop 19, to admit air to the other side of the paddle 4, to cause it to move back.
