Abstract
After liming, deliming, bating and pickling hides are tanned with chromium sulphate with a co-ordinately linked radical of a water-soluble mono-, di- or hydroxy carboxylic acid in an amount not more than 0.8 mole. per atom of chromium. The compounds are used in the form of powders or aqueous solutions with a minimum chromic oxide content of 15%. Auxiliary agents are sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate or sodium sulphite.
