Abstract
967,279. Multiple fastenings. BLAKDALE PRODUCTS Ltd. July 11, 1962 [July 18, 1961], No. 26034/61. Heading E2A. In an article of furniture comprising a set of drawers aligned in a direction perpendicular to the direction of withdrawal, each drawer being fitted with a latch 13, the latches being spaced along a line parallel to the direction of alignment and each latch being displaceable perpendicularly to the line, each latch cooperates with a catch plate or bar 18 which extends parallel to the line, is common to all the latches of the set of drawers and is carried by a frame or a wall of the article of furniture, the common catch plate being reciprocated in the direction perpendicular to both the line and the direction of withdrawal, between two positions in one of which it is in the path of the latches and in the other of which it is clear of the path of the latches. As shown, the plate or bar 18 is in two parts, each provided with two oblique slots 19 and is slidable in the direction of the arrow B to effect lateral displacement in the direction of the arrow C to move it into or out of the path of the latch 13. The invention is applicable to sets of juxtaposed drawers and to an arrangement in which the latches are carried on a reciprocable mounting which replaces the catch plate, each drawer being provided with a plate which extends over the height of the drawer.
