Abstract

964,509. Pulse generating circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 30, 1960 [Nov. 30, 1959], No. 40635/59. Heading H3P. A charging circuit for a pulse-forming network PFN includes an electronic device controlled by a signal derived from the PFN for diverting excess charging energy from the PFN. In Fig. 8, the PFN is resonantly charged from the secondary of transformer T via an inductor L and diode D and discharged via a load R when the switching tube S is triggered. The thyratron TH is made conductive by the output of amplifier A when the peak voltage at the anode of the hold-off diode D exceeds a value set by the potentiometer PD. When conductive, the thyratron TH limits the voltage to which the pulse-forming network PFN can charge by shunting the circuit R1, R2, C across the inductor L and the supply transformer T. Relay RY is energized when the thyratron TH conducts, changing over the supply to the split phase motor RM (Fig. 9) which reduces the setting of the adjustable autotransformer VR feeding the transformer T of Fig. 8. In circuits operated from D.C. supplies, a grid-controlled rectifier can be similarly controlled. In Fig. 7, tube V is coupled inductively to the charging inductor L so as to divert charging energy when the potential across potentiometer PD exceeds a predetermined level.
