Abstract

964,138. Pneumatic springs. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. May 8, 1962 [Dec. 22, 1961], No. 17600/62. Heading F2S. A bellows 10 for an air spring suspension system comprises an ellipsoidal air impervious bellows having truncated ends, the bellows being made of a flexible material. In the construction shown the bellows 10 is mounted by its wired beadings 13, 14 between end plates 20, 29, the former being clamped to a pedestal 23 and member 21 by a nut 26 and bolt 25 and the latter being affixed to a member 22 by means 30. A bumper 27 is provided within end plate 20 resiliently secured to nut 26. The upper end plate 29 may be cup-shaped to provide a greater volume and a greater relative movement between the ends of the bellows (Fig. 3, not shown). The pedestal may also be modified. The bellows may be provided with an oilimpervious lining e.g. neoprene.
