Abstract
964,129. Plate heat-exchangers. SEPARATOR A.B. July 19, 1962 [July 27, 1961], No. 27791/62. Heading F4S. A plate heat exchanger comprises a series of plates 10, 11, e.g. of sheet metal substantially alike one another and clamped to form a pack having chambers 16, 18 for the media which are to exchange heat, the plates have identically positioned ridges impressed into them from the same side, the ridges surrounding the heat exchange surfaces of the plates as well as one or more passage holes arranged in the plates, characterized in that the recesses in every second plate 10 are provided with an endless sealing strip which lies in sealing contact against the ridge of the adjacent plate and forms closed interspaces 16, and that the recesses in the remaining plate interspaces are provided with a number of supporting members 42 for supporting the adjacent ridge spaced at intervals to the extent that the recesses are entirely or partially lacking a sealing strip thus forming open interspaces 18. As shown, the supporting members may be tongues 42 partially cut out in the plates on the outside of the recesses and bent in over the recesses. The recess 27b is wider than the recesses 27a containing sealing strips 27. All the recesses have a depth which is larger than half the mean distance between the plates. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the supporting members are constituted by lugs welded in the recesses.
