Abstract

953,569. Feeding sheets. NEWMAN LABELLING MACHINES Ltd. Aug. 23, 1962 [Aug. 24, 1961], No. 30557/61. Heading B6B. [Also in Division B8] In a labelling machine (Division B8) the mechanism for transferring labels from a stack 60 to a labelling position comprises a cold suction box 25 and a hot suction box 40. The cold suction box is connected to rod 26 sliding in bearing blocks 27, 28 secured to the machine frame. The rod 26 is moved by means of link 30 pivotally connected to the rod 26 and the lever 31. The lever 31, carried on pivot post 32, is pivotally connected by link 33 to the arm 34 which carries a cam follower 35 engaging, under the action of spring 37 with the cam 36 fixed to the cam-shaft 18. The hot suction box 40 slides on rod 42 and is moved by link 43, pivotally connected to the hot suction box and to arm 44. The arm 44 carries cam follower 45 engaging under the action of spring 47, with the cam 46 fixed to the cam-shaft 18. The hot suction box 40 is also arranged to be tilted by means of link 50 fastened to bar 55 and pivotally connected to arm 51 controlled by cam 53, fixed to cam-shaft 18, bearing on cam follower 52. A vacuum supply is controlled by valve 64, which is arranged by means of link 65, arm 66, cam follower 67, cam 68 fixed on cam-shaft 18, and spring 69, to supply suction to either the hot suction box 40 or the cold suction box 25. The box 25 is moved to contact the label stack 60, suction is applied and the box 25 is moved away from the stack 60 carrying a label. Box 40 is reciprocated to a position between the label stack 60 and the box 25 and is tilted towards the label. Suction is removed from box 25 and applied to box 40 and the label is transferred. Box 40 is un-tilted and reciprocated back to the label applying position, where it is again tilted to apply a portion of the label to an article moving at the same speed as the box 40. The box 40 contains electrical heating elements to heat thermoplastic adhesive applied to the labels. Specification 865, 501 is referred to.
