Relates to a threshing device, particularly for combine harvesters, which comprises a threshing drum 6 and associated concave 5 followed by a rotating beater 10, a grating 11 extending from one end of the concave 5 with its free end above the shaker 12. According to the invention the beater comprises a drum having a plurality of rods 18 extending outwardly of the cylindrical surface 14 and arranged in spaced relationship longitudinally thereof in rows. In the form shown, the cylindrical surface 14 of drum 10 is formed with a number of longitudinal depressions 15 in each of which is located a shaft 16 on which is mounted a solid wall member 17 having rods 18 projecting beyond its outer edge. The shafts 16 are controlled in such a manner that when the members 17 and rods 18 are beneath the cylinder they extend out at right angles therefrom, whilst when they are at the top they lie more or less closely against the surface of the cylinder as shown in Fig. 1. The prongs 18 may be so dimensioned that their free ends engage between the bars of grating 11. In the modification, Fig. 3, the down 20 is formed with slits 21 through which project spring prongs 22. These may be formed in pairs from a single piece of wire 23 with its middle coiled part embracing a shaft 24 and secured against rotation thereon by a pin 25. In other modifications (not shown), the rods 18 may extend rigidly outwardly from the drum surface and may be partly covered by detachable walls similar to the members 17.
