Abstract
959, 563. Photographic developers. KODAK Ltd. June 15, 1960 [March 16, 1959], No. 9105/59. Heading G2C. A photographic alkaline developer contains an aryl or quinoline compound having no developing activity, which compound is one of the compounds designated 1 to 7 in the Specification or is a compound having an OH substituent in the ring and a substituent R in ortho-position thereto, wherein R is Cl, Br, -CN, -NO 2 or -Co, R<SP>1</SP> (R<SP>1</SP> being H, -NH 2 , -NHR<SP>11</SP> or OR<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> being alkyl or aryl either of which may be substituted), the compound being present in sufficient quantity to give an increase in covering power of a silver halide emulsion developed therein and the developer being free from developing agents the oxidation products of which would couple with the compound to give a dye. The compounds designated 1 to 7 are:- 2, 6-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 5, 5<SP>1</SP>-methylene-disalicylic acid, 2-phenyl-3-hydroxy-cinchoninic acid, 2,2<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxy-1, 1<SP>1</SP>-dinaphthylmethane-3, 3<SP>1</SP>-dicarboxylic acid, 2-hydroxy-isophthalic acid, 4, 5-dihydroxy-1, 3-benzene disulphonic acid and 2-naphthol-3, 6- disulphonic acid.
