Abstract

958,728. Wire braid hydraulic hose. LEE RUBBER & TIRE CORPORATION. June 12, 1962 [April 24, 1962], No. 22620/62. Heading F2P. A method of making and preconditioning a wire-braid-reinforced hydraulic hose comprises positioning a synthetic rubber tube 10 on a mandrel (not shown) with an inflated member thereon, positioning at least one tubular braid of high tensile steel wire 11 thereover, positioning a tubular textile anchor braid 12 over the braid 11 and positioning a synthetic rubber tubular cover over the braid 12, subjecting the resulting assembly to heat to vulcanize the rubber, removing it from the mandrel, connecting the hose to a source of air pressure and submitting it to an internal pressure of approximately 90% of its minimum burst pressure for an instant and then releasing the pressure. Fig. 1 shows the arrangement of the wires on a hose with a single wire layer 12 before stressing. Fig. 4 shows the more ordered rearrangement of the wires after submitting a bore with two wire layers 17 and 19 to the internal pressure specified.
