Abstract

958,327. Folding sleeves for tyres. SOC. ANON. DES PNEUMATIQUES DUNLOP. June 14, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 22982/62. Heading B7C. A machine for folding a sleeve 1, of rubber fabric, comprises a ring 27 and an inflatable tube 41, arranged in axial continuation of each other, the ring having a suction area along its edge to hold the sleeve, means 44 and 53 being provided to inflate and deform the tube 41, so that portion P1 of the sleeve, initially located over tube 41, is folded over portion P2. As shown, the ring 27, which may be rubber, and tube 41 are supported by staves 20 which are moved outwards from a drum 2 when bags 8 are inflated. In use, the sleeve 1 is positioned over the ring and tube, then bags 8 are inflated. A vacuum is applied to peripheral grooves 29 in the ring, and the tube 41 is inflated and deformed by advancing a cylindrical skirt 53, which slides on the shaft which supports drum 2 (Fig. 2, not shown).
