Abstract

957,500. Fastening railway rails. E. M. LEWIS. Oct. 6, 1960 [July 6, 1959], No. 23112/59. Heading E1G. In a device for flexibly mounting a railway rail on a support 4 by means of a clamping plate 4 a rubber pad 6 is provided between a portion 4a of the clamping plate 4 and the flange of the rail 1 to allow lengthwise movement of the rail 1 relative to the support 3. The portion of the clamping plate 4 which bears on the support 3 is provided with a central portion 4g, which normally rests on the support 3 and with two end portions 4f which in the unstressed condition of the plate 4 are clear of the support 3 but engage the support 3 when the plate 4 is stressed to secure the rail 1 in position. The plate 4, Fig. 2, is arched at 4h between the central and end portions 4g, 4f. The pad 6, Fig. 7 (not shown) may be provided with a portion extending downwardly over the edge of the flange of the rail 1. Specification 854,063 is referred to.
