A spring insert for cushions and the like comprises a plurality of parallel spring strips 3a . . . 3d, each formed of a piece of spring wire, having in an upper and in a lower defining plane generally U-shaped parts 14, 16 which are interconnected by helically shaped spring parts 13, 17, the U-shaped parts being offset longitudinally in the two defining planes by half a division t/2, each division t being equal to the longitudinal section of a U-shaped part, the spring strips being mounted on similar rectangular frames 1a, 1b located in the defining planes of the spring strips 3a . . . 3d, the frame 1a having two auxiliary sides 27 with round cross-sections each of which is offset inwardly relative to a lateral side 4a of the frame 1a by a distance a equal to the spring wire length necessary to form a knot 29, the inner spring strips 3b, 3c having on their ends longitudinal portions 7 fixed by a knot 29 on the adjacent auxiliary side 27. These sides 27 have at their ends legs 28 bent at right angles thereto and fixed to the sides 2a of the frame by clamping sleeves 5a, 5e, 5f. The outer strips 3a, 3d are in mirror-image arrangement and their upper and lower longitudinal sections are mounted on the long sides 2b, 2a of the upper and lower frames 1b 1a respectively by means of clamping sleeves 5c to 5h. The two rectangular frames 1 1a, 1b are made from rods of square cross-section.
