In a fastener for a conveyer belt, wherein abutting belt ends 1A, 1B to be joined are sandwiched between bridging plates 3, pointed limbs 5 of each of U-shaped wire staples 6 pass through a pair of holes 4 spaced lengthwise of the belt in one plate, the belt thickness, and a registering pair of holes in the other plate, and are bent over the outer surface of said other plate away from the abutting belt edges. The width of the plates is restricted to permit the belt to trough. In Figs. 1, 3, the plates are contiguous across the belt width and are corrugated to present three external parallel grooves receiving the staple bases and bent over points and corresponding inner ribs pressing into the belt faces. In Fig. 6 (not shown), wherein the inner plates have three pairs of holes in each end, outer plates of stout wire flattened and grooved at each end receive only one staple at each end and may be contiguous at their ends across the belt width or lie clear of each other. The staples may be initially detached and their limbs may be a force fit in the plate through which they are first passed, or initially secured to one plate, as by spot-welding at their bases or being force-fitted into the holes of that plate. As in Specification 955,905, the staple limb points may be bent over by recesses in a pointreceiving anvil which may be movable lengthwise of the belt for compression of the bent points. Should the staple limb points overlap the adjacent plate end they may be turned into the belt material. Preferably, after bending over, the points should be further pressed to compress the plates tightly to the belt material.
