Abstract

955, 968. Drying paper &c. BELOIT IRON WORKS. May 3, 1960 [Aug.28, 1959], No. 15591/60. Addition to 911, 314. Heading D2A. [Also in Division F4] In apparatus for drying a web of paper, textile or plastic material, air from a chamber or plenum is directed, against the web, through substantially cylindrical holes 31 in a plate 30, Fig. 4, forming a wall of the said chamber, and each hole has a larger opening, with a rounded lip 32, on the side of the plate facing into the chamber than on the side facing the web. According to Fig. 2, the web W travels around a drying cylinder 11c and heated or cooled air is directed through holes 31 in the walls 30 of chambers 26a, b, c and d, arranged in a hood 18. The holes may be arranged equidistant from each other, in parallel lines inclined to the axis of the cylinder 11c. After having passed over the latter, the web may pass around a sweat cylinder 11d, Fig. 1 (not shown) cooled by water, so that condensate from the surrounding moist atmosphere is picked up by the web, thus ensuring that it is not over-dried.
