[Also in Division G2] In order to protect the silvered surface of a glass mirror 5, the glass and silvering around the rear peripheral corner are ground away prior to the mirror being secured to an impervious backing 9, as of thin metal, by a sealing compound 6 which overlies the edge of the remaining silvered area. During assembly, the back- . ing and/or mirror may be hot so that air therebetween will be expanded and partially expelled. The assembly is then fixed in a casing 10 by bending over the casing rim 11. The silvered surface may also be painted. Specification 782,895 is referred to.
