Abstract
954,900. Snap-action switches. E. G. E. JANSSON. Nov. 14, 1960 [Nov. 14, 1959], No. 39056/60. Heading H2B. In a switch of the type comprising fixed contacts bridged by an electrical component, e.g. a fuse, carried by a movable bridge member, arcing between the fixed contacts and component contacts is prevented by mounting the component in contacts on the bridge so that both the bridge contacts and component contacts engage the fixed contacts. As shown, a fuse 7 having knife contacts 8 engaged with and depending from bridge contacts 9 is mounted in a bridge 2. The bridge contacts comprise pairs of U-shaped contacts with diverging limbs the inner limbs 9b receiving contact 8 and the outer limbs 9a co-operating with the outer limbs 3a of a fixed contact 3. The contacts 3 are arranged in pairs and receive the fuse contact 8 between their inner limbs 3b, their inner and outer limbs being biased apart by springs 18. Contact 8 is shorter than contact limb 9a so that in opening it disengages from contact 3 before contact 9a, and in closing engages afterwards. A snap-action mechanism comprises an operating shaft 11 carrying an arm 12 which is in toothed engagement with a similar arm 13. The arms are connected by a tension spring 17 and engage abutments 15, 16 on the bridge. A similar snap-action mechanism is provided at the other end.
