Abstract
941,405. Automatic thickness control. T.T.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. Sept. 4, 1961 [Sept. 2, 1960], No. 30353/60. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H2] A variable speed drive comprises two electromagnetic slip couplings having their output shafts coupled to an output member the maximum output shaft speeds being different and their input shafts driven at constant speeds, speed variation of the output member being obtained by varying the excitation of one or both couplings. In a textile machine a pair of tongued and grooved rollers 12, 13 are to be driven at a speed which increases with the thickness of the material S. This thickness is measured by a transducer 28 and combined with a feedback signal in unit 31 which is applied to an amplifier 32 differentially energizing two couplings 22, 23 driving the roller 13, a tacho generator 33 coupled to which supplies the feedback signal to unit 31. A circuit employing transistors is given in the Specification for the amplifier 32.
