Abstract

940,116. Cartons. REED CORRUGATED CASES Ltd. March 15, 1960 [March 24, 1959], No. 10189/59. Heading B8P. [Also in Division A4] A display carton comprises a polygonal base 4 to which side walls 5, 8 are hinged to form a tray-like container, at least one side wall 8 having a tongue or tab 10 hinged to each end thereof to extend along the adjacent side wall 5 to extend through a slot 6 provided thereon to permit the inclination of the wall 8 to be varied with respect to the base 4, the wall or walls 8 having a hinge line 11 parallel to the hinged connection thereof to the base 4. The tongues 10 are provided on extensions 9 hinged to the walls 8. The hinge lines 11 facilitate the varying of the inclination of the walls 8. The carton is preferably formed from a onepiece blank, as shown, but may be formed from separate sheets adhered or stapled together. The carton may be contained in a corrugated board box 1, Figs. 4 and 5, having a nylon thread tear strip 2 extending therearound. To display the articles 12, e.g. toilet rolls, the upper portion of the box 1 is removed by tearing out the strip 2 and the articles urge the walls 8 outwardly. The carton may be displayed by insertion with or without the bottom 3 of the box into the remainder of the box, Fig. 5. In a modification, Fig. 6, fold lines 13 are provided in the extensions 9. The base 4 may have three, four, five, six or more sides.
