Abstract
947,566. Travelling wave tubes. MULLARD Ltd. Sept. 5, 1962, No. 34025/62. Heading H1D. A travelling wave tube comprises a support member 1 extending along the tube, a channel 2 of rectangular cross-section extending along the support member, a pair of insulating locating rods 3, 4 extending along the channel in adjacent corners of the channel and serving as a cradle to locate, a helix 5 in the channel, together with further locating means for holding the helix in position in the cradle. As shown, the further locating means may comprise two further insulating rods 6, 7 on forming an inverted cradle, the whole structure being held in position by a metal rod 8 which is urged against the further insulating rods by a spring 9 attached to the support member. Alternatively, an insulating bar of either circular or rectangular cross-section may be in contact with the helix and the sides of the channel. A coating of attenuating material may be provided at the centres of the further insulating rods so that the electrical connection to the helix is made through this coating from the metal bar. The supporting member is preferably of circular cross-section and the channel may be open sided and shown or may be a closed channel.
