Abstract
A mono - nitroso - chloride of cyclododecadiene is produced by the action of nitrosyl chloride on a solution of cyclododeca- 1, 5, 9-triene. The nitrosyl chloride may be reacted in the form of vapour, or as a solution in a solvent. In example 1, a solution of trans, trans, ciscyclododeca-1, 5, 9-triene in glacial acetic acid is mixed with a solution of nitrosyl chloride in glacial acetic acid. Crystals of 1- nitroso-2-chloro-cyclododeca-trans-cis 5, 9-diene are formed; these are filtered off, dried, and recrystallized from ethanol or hexane. Example 2 describes the preparation of 1-nitroso-chlorocyclododeca - trans - trans - 5, 9 - diene from all trans - cyclododeca - 1, 5, 9-triene. The Specification states that cyclododecanone oxime may be prepared from the cyclododecadiene - mono - nitroso - chlorides by hydrogenation of the two double bonds and removal of the chlorine atom.
