Abstract

947,092. Disc brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. July 4, 1962 [July 4, 1961], No. 24135/61. Heading F2E. In a disc brake pads are arranged on either side of a brake disc 3 and are associated with one another by means of a parallelogram linkage 9, 10 such that as a result of frictional contact of the pads with the disc the diagonally opposite corners of the linkage are engageable with one or the other of a pair of abutment surfaces 12 or 13 according to the direction of rotation of the disc so that the pads are capable of linear displacement in a plane parallel to the plane of the disc to achieve a servo action upon operation of the brake applying means 5. The brake applying means may be in the form of hydraulic piston and cylinder devices 4, 5 as shown or may be in the form of a hand brake operated linkwork or a combination of both. Automatic or non-automatic adjusting means (not shown) may be provided'to compensate for brake lining wear.
