Apparatus adapted to supply hot and cold water to mixing valves located at draw-off points at and remote from the apparatus and also to supply a mixture of hot and cold water of pre-regulated temperature to a tap located at the apparatus and to a tap or taps remote therefrom comprises a cold water inlet pipe 19 having a branch pipe 13, water to be heated flowing from the inlet via a path 1 . . . 4 (Fig. 3), to a gas-fired heating element V whence hot water issues into the pipe 6 which has a branch 18, and hot and cold branch pipes 13, 18 unite in a pipe 10 to provide a mixture of lower temperature than that in the pipe 6. The mixture may be withdrawn via a tap 20 on the pipe 10 or may flow through a pipe 21 branching from the pipe 10 to one or more distant taps 22. A non-return valve 9 prevents backflow of cold water into the hot water flow pipe 6 whilst a control screw M regulates the amount of cold water admitted to the branch 13 and hence the temperature of the mixture drawn from the tap 20 or 22. Taps 14 and 15 connected respectively to the hot water flow pipe in front of the non-return valve and to the cold water inlet form the known type of mixing battery permitting water of any desired temperature to be drawn-off at the outlet U. A pipe 17 branching from the hot water flow pipe in front of the non-return valve conveys hot water to a distant tap 14a which may be associated with a cold water tap 15a supplied from a pipe 16. The gas supply to the burner B for the heater V is controlled automatically in dependence on the pressure drop across a throttle S in the heater inlet pipe by a valve actuated by a diaphragm 24 responding to this pressure drop. The hot and cold water pipes to and from the heater V and to the various taps are connected to a junction block, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), in which the various interconnections are made and which houses the control member M, the non-return valve 9 and the throttle S.
