Abstract
The invention comprises cyclopentadiene adducts of formula: <FORM:0946312/C2/1> wherein X is <FORM:0946312/C2/2> Y is <FORM:0946312/C2/3> or -R1-H, m is O or a whole number equal to or greater than 1 and n is a whole number equal to or greater than 1, R is hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl and when n is greater than 1 R can represent both hydrogen and alkyl in the same <FORM:0946312/C2/4> , R1 is C1-4 alkylene and R1 to R6 are halogen, hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl or C1-4 alkoxy, at least 3 being halogen, with the proviso that X and Y are not both -R1-OH. The compounds may be modified in that X and Y may together contain up to 10 chlorine atoms instead of hydrogen atoms, but must contain at least one hydroxyl group between them. The modification may be effected by direct chlorination of the adducts. The adducts are obtained by Diels-Alder addition of halogenated cyclopentadienes and unsaturated aliphatic alcohols or ether-alcohols. The products are insecticides (see Division A5).ALSO:Insecticidal compositions comprise, together with a solid or liquid carrier, a cyclopentadiene adduct of formula: <FORM:0946312/A5-A6/1> where X is <FORM:0946312/A5-A6/2> , Y is <FORM:0946312/A5-A6/3> or -R1-H, m is 0 or a whole number equal or greater than 1 and n is a whole number equal to or greater than 1, R is hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl and when n is greater than 1 can represent both hydrogen and alkyl in the same <FORM:0946312/A5-A6/4> unit, R1 is C1-4 alkylene and R1 to R6 are halogen, hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl or C1-4 alkoxy, at least 3 being halogen, with the proviso that X and Y are not both -R1-OH; X and Y may together contain up to 10 chlorine atoms instead of hydrogen atoms, but must still contain at least one hydroxyl group between them. (For preparation see Division C2). Specified forms are dusts, wettable powders, emulsions and solutions.
