Abstract

946,252. Drilling. BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGGERI A.S. Feb. 3, 1961 [Feb. 29, 1960], No. 4219/61. Heading B3C. [Also in Division B4] Apparatus for marking out large work components or assemblies comprises a beam 1 which runs on rails 2 extending in the longitudinal direction of the erection shop on opposite sides of the working zone one or both rails being provided with graduations 3, a carriage 4 provided with one or two sets of graduations 8 and movable along the beam transversely of the rails 2 and a marking member 7 mounted on the carriage 4. As shown the marking member 7 comprises a projector for projecting cross line markings vertically. The member 7 may be replaced by a drill spindle. The beam 1 and carriage 4 are controlled by servomechanisms and electronic controls, a control desk being provided at which there is a continuous indication of the momentary coordinates of the marking member 7. In a modification, the readings of the positions of the beam 1 and carriage 4 are performed by optical observations. In another modification, the graduations 3 and 8 are constituted by teeth on a rack which co-operate with gear-wheels the turning of which is transmitted to an observation point. Several beams 1 may be arranged to run along the same set of rails 2. Two or more carriages 4 may be mounted on the same beam.
