Abstract
944,916. Tank vehicles. DAIRY EQUIPMENT CO. Sept. 12, 1961 [March 14, 1961], No. 32672/61. Heading B7B. [Also in Division E1] A tank construction comprises an outer shell 5 disposed around and spaced outwardly from an inner tank 4 and a layer 86 of foamed plastic in the clearance between the tank and the shell and bonded to both to form a rigid structure. The tank 4 is of stainless steel and has a drain pipe 37 and a covered manhole 36 opening through the shell 5. The shell is of glass-fibre-reinforced, moulded plastic with internal strengthening ribs 22. It has a top 11, sides 8, end-walls 9 but no bottom. A compartment 41 also of moulded plastic with bonded on insulation extends backwards from the rear wall 9 and 10 abutted on either side by recesses 25 with aligned rings 26. A moulded plastic saddle 6 with outrigger ribs 53 and stiffeners (Fig. 13, not shown) rides on wood battens 73 on the side-rails 7 of a vehicle chassis 2 to which it is held by bolts 78 with rubber buffers 83. The skirt of the shell 5 is bolted to flanges 50 on the saddle 6 and the junction covered by a trim-strip 24 which also conceals wiring for lamps 70. A method of construction is described, including moulding of the shell from glass-fibre and polyester resin and inserting and foaming the polyurethane layer 86.
