Abstract

944,504. Air cushion vehicles. HOVERCRAFT DEVELOPMENT Ltd. March 21, 1960 [March 23, 1959], No. 34407/63. Divided out of 944,502. Heading B7K. The subject matter of this Specification, which is concerned with means for varying the position of the centre of pressure of a supporting air cushion relative to the vertical axis through the centre of gravity of a vehicle, as described with reference to Figs. 1-5 is substantially the same as the equivalent matter described in Specification 944,502. Apparatus for displacing a fluid curtain, and thereby the centre of pressure of a cushion, comprises a slidable flat plate 72, Fig. 6a, having a narrow port 73 mounted over a wide opening in the base of the vehicle. In Fig. 7a the jet curtain passes through an annular nozzle 76 which may be flexible or constructed as a series of separate nozzles, the walls of the nozzle being adjustable about pivots 78, 79 to vary the lateral inclination of the jet. Since a vertical curtain will be weaker than an inclined one, provision may be made to widen the nozzle as it rotates.
