Abstract
The invention comprises monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:0933160/IV(a)/1> wherein R2 is the radical of a diazo component of the benzene, thiazole, benzthiazole, thiadiazole or thiophene series which is free of sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups, X and Y are hydrogen or chlorine atoms or methyl or methoxy groups, R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical containing up to 4 carbon atoms which may be cyano substituted or the group -C2H4OC2H4CO OZ. R1 is the group C2H4OC2H4COOZ and Z is an alkyl radical containing up to 4 carbon atoms. The dyes are prepared by the normal coupling procedure using suitable components. The dyes give red and blue shades when used in the dyeing and printing of polyethylene terephthalate, acetate rayon and polyamides. Examples and suitable components are specified.
